Words & Music, A Literary Feast in New Orleans!

Writers of literature and writers of music -

Meet top authors, editors, & agents speaking on this year's theme, The American Dream!

This year's festival, aptly themed The American Dream, takes place Nov. 20-23, 2008 with the most amazing line-up ever,

including an interview with the one, the only, the incomparable Ted Turner!

Other non-fiction stars include F. Scott Fitzgerald biographer Scott Donaldson; rock star biographer Holly George Warren and co-author of her current memoir project, Michael Lang, the man who invented Woodstock; NFL star and author Jason Peter and his ghost writer Tony O'Neill.

Noted fiction writers include Andrew Davidson, Julia Glass, Stewart O'Nan, Jack Fuller, Robert Olen Butler, Michael Malone, Karen Essex, Elizabeth Dewberry (His Lovely Wife), and short fiction writers Simon Van Booy and Barb Johnson.

Writers will meet literary editors Pat Walsh, Carrie Kania, Rhonda Hughes, Carole DeSanti, Bruce Tracy, Lauren Marino, Chuck Adams, and Will Murphy; and literary agents Michael Murphy, Joy Harris, Jeff Kleinman, Deborah Grosvenor, Brandi Bowles, Amy Rennert, and Emma Sweeney.

Participants who arrive on Friday night are invited to the Back Door Coffeehouse (no admission fee) for coffee, conversation, readings, and music at the same location. The candles are lit at 7:30 for a real seventies experience!

Break time coffee from Javawerks and a box lunch from McAlister’s is included with registration. There will be no refunds after January 1. Advance registration is required. No registrations will be accepted at the door.

            If you are coming from out-of-town, turn east (right) from I-59 or west (right) from Highway 49 onto Hardy Street. Go to the traffic light at 34th Street. The church will be on your right with the parking lot behind the church.

MICHAEL GARRETT'S HOW TO BE PUBLISHED WORKSHOPS

MERIDIAN COMMUNITY COLLEGE, JANUARY 31-FEBRUARY 1, 2009
Michael Garrett is an internationally respected author and editor. As credited in Mr. King's non-fiction book On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft, he served as Stephen King's first editor. In a professional capacity he has edited the works of such greats as Joyce Carol Oates, Harlan Ellison, Lawrence Block and many others. He has been widely published since 1979, in periodicals ranging from Twilight Zone magazine to his novel, Keeper, which sold out its initial printing and was optioned for a movie. His short story, "At the Count of Three," was also optioned as the pilot episode of a late night cable television series. His works have been published in England, Germany, Japan, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Spain, Finland and Russia, as well as in audio book format.  He serves as co-editor of the internationally award-winning Hot Blood anthology series, a popular selection of the Doubleday, Mystery, Literary Guild, and Science Fiction Book Clubs. The series has also been optioned for television. He's an Editorial Associate of the Writer's Digest School, and since 1986 has presented highly acclaimed writing workshops at major colleges and universities across the nation. A featured speaker at numerous writers' conferences, he currently serves on the Advisory Board of Kentucky's Green River Writers.  

The Association of Writers & Writing Programs Conference & Bookfair

will take place February 11-14, 2009 in Chicago.  More than 300 literary events will take place at this conference.
