The Everglades

In the ‘glades I tramp

the land alone

where the sound of silence,

a hollow drone,

is punctuated

by a gator’s groan.

The breathless heat

melts me clean

as the mosquitoes buzz

to a crescendo scream

and the pines creep close

in the smothering steam.

Book Reviews:

Silence Speaks to Me by Lacey Thompson, PhD.  Assistant Professor of Humanities, Ohio University Southern, Ironton, OH  45638.

Rosalyn Becker's Silence Speaks to Me speaks volumes to anyone who has a passion for poetry.  Ms. Becker's poetic vision is as fresh and invigorating as her nature images drawn largely from the Florida Everglades.  After savoring this first taste of Ms. Becker's poetic fare, readers surely will hunger for more.

Silence Speaks to Me will be required reading for the Interdisciplinary Arts class at Ohio University Southern for the winter/ spring session.

Mostly a eulogy to nature, this eminently readable collection is, on the whole, a collection of short poems, and a kind of poetry which lifts the spirit. --Paul Rance, editor of the Peace and Freedom journal in England.
