Moonlight Dancer By Molly Gunnels Covington LA
The sound of his hooves on the desert Escape the ears of men The big black horse with a gleam in his eye Has run from home again Now, with great speed, he races the moon As its moonbeams shine down Lighting the way for his great escapades While his hooves churn up ground His mother and father, wild and free For an hour or two He escapes into their cool desert world Looking for something new He stops in a circle of moonlight, Tonight no clouds are out, It makes his black coat glisten and glimmer As he dances about He dances ‘neath the light of the night Under a roof of stars He basks in attention from the heavens, And Mercury and Mars By now his long absence is noted They are searching again The is the part of escape that he loves, Time to outsmart the men He has strategies, and plays mind games Twists and turns, here and there Donkeys can’t compete with agility They chase him everywhere Finally, he turns and runs to home, He surrenders tonight, He’s going home not by force but by choice, For now, he ends the fight As the gate closes, he’s not concerned, He’ll escape again soon, Until the end of his days he will dance, By the light of the moon |
