WRITING GUIDELINES FOR THE OXFORD SO AND SO A Southern literary journal with no advertising. 56 PAGES PER ISSUE - $4.00 PER COPY
1. FICTION AND NON-FICTION: Articles/stories should be either about Mississippi OR about a culture/heritage similar to Mississippi's such as AL, AR, GA, SC, east TX/OK, west and middle TN, MO boothill, west and south central KY (plus Louisville area), parts of NC, VA, north FL, HOWEVER: Culture of South Louisiana (voo doo, cajun music, alligators, etc.) IS NOT similar to 98% of Mississippi's culture. Ditto for extreme east TN, southwest VA and most of the state of WV. Please remember this when submitting stories/non-fiction.
2. FICTION and NON-FICTION should all be Southern. No matter how good your writing is, do not submit it for publication if not "Southern". However, Mississippians who've had a BOOK published recently OF ANY GENRE: We'd love to run a short mention of it in THE OXFORD SO AND SO.
3. POETRY: Should be traditional, no more than 12-16 lines. MUST pertain to MISSISSIPPI or its rivers, counties, cities/towns, famous residents, etc.
4. MISSISSIPPI RESIDENCY NOT REQUIRED! Some of our best writing has come from former residents, non-residents, and (in one case) from a writer who merely detoured to check out Shelby, Mississippi.
5. PAYMENT: Like many literary journals THE OXFORD SO AND SO pays copies: FICTION/NON-FICTION: Two (2) copies for the first article in the issue and one (1) copy for each additional in the same issue. POETRY: One (1) copy for each piece of poetry in the issue.

NOTE: The editor would appreciate it if you could submit your writing well before the deadline. It seems the editor usually gets "slammed" with material in the last week. ALSO: Recently all issues have been in the mail within approximately three weeks after the deadline... (May should be May 21, etc.)
